Question 1

The 2030 Sustainable development agenda is essential for the formation of

national policies and initiatives in Malaysia. The term sustainable development

agenda implies a comprehensive set of strategies and goals. These goals and

strategies aim to achieve social economic and environmental sustainability in

a country (United Nations, 2024). The focus is to meet the needs of the

current generation as well as save resources for the future. According to

Mustaffa et al. (2023), a number of challenges including minimisation of

adverse hazards, investment, financial and budgetary issues and inadequacy

of governance and management are limiting the sustainable growth of

Malaysia. An in-depth understanding of these challenges can prioritize the

2030 sustainable development agenda for Malaysia.

Malaysia is committed towards sustainable development to gain international

recognition. The 12th Malaysia Plan is such an initiative by the Malaysian

government. The aim is to integrate sustainable development principles into

governance strategies. The Malaysian government is considering the agenda

as a way of national recovery and economic stabilization (Ministry of

Economy, 2021). The government is also considering the alignment of the

national policies with stakeholder expectations and sustainable development

goals (Government of Malaysia, 2024). In this way, Malaysia can gain

development goals emphasise equality and inclusivity of all social groups

(Government of Malaysia, 2023). The shared prosperity vision 2030 of

Malaysia can help in creating a harmonious society. The vision can also help

to identify ways of reducing poverty, promoting social justice and protecting

natural and environmental resources. Therefore, Malaysians can identify key

problem areas in governance and target populations for implementing

sustainable development goals.

Innovation is a crucial aspect of sustainable development goal initiatives. The

National SDG Road Map of Malaysia is the key document of sustainable
