My rule regarding information gathering is "don't be greedy." I start with
the single most important information that I need to assess (usually
presenting symptoms or mood), then I ask myself "do I have enough
information to go on?" If the answer is Yes, then I stop and move to the
next section. If the answer is No, then I will pick the next most important
information.
