Living organisms need to maintain homeostasis, build structures, carry out
tasks, etc.
all cells (organisms) require energy to accomplish these tasks
Metabolism
the sum of all anabolic and catabolic processes in a cell organism
these may require energy or release energy
Energy
the ability to do work
work is referred to moving materials from A → B
All forms of energy can be grouped into 2 categories
Kinetic and Potential Energy
Kinetic
energy of moving objects (Atoms, ions, etc.)
Potential
Stored energy that can be used
chemical potential energy; electrical potential energy;
gravitational potential energy
Exo/Endothermic Reactions
Exothermic - exit
