A 16-year-old male, Max, living in a far away community in
Ontario, Canada. Telehealth is the only health service available.
The client speaks with community members who are trained by
nurses. Nurses were delegating patient care activities to
community members and assessing their competencies to
provide safe care. Max was experiencing pain, discomfort and a
'burning sensation' when urinating; tenderness and pain in and
around his testicles. The pain was getting worse. Finally, he
decided to have a video conference call with a community
member. He was told that he has chlamydia. The nurse caring
for him and the community member was also a family friend.
The 16-year-old asked the nurse not to tell his parents and not to
share his medical record with his parents.
If the nurse was acting based on deontology what would they
do?
Deontology would NOT support to tell Max's parents.
