Today, I want to present to all of you a reality that needs
urgency, so that we can open our eyes to the plight of most
Filipinos in the struggle between living in the city and living in
the province. Based on my impression of the film called "Manila
sa kuko ng liwanag," Manila looks like a fire that attracts a fly
just to consume it.
We are knowledgeable about the province and its peaceful
surroundings. Due to the lack of opportunities in these areas,
Ligaya, one of the main characters, eventually went to have
money in the big city of Manila and agreed to be given free
education, but was deceived. That's an indicator that we need to
be mindful of anyone who's going to cross our journey.
It is clear that living in the city provides a wide range of
possibilities, but not all of them have the same privilege of a
respectable career or a well-paid job. There are still jobs that pay
inadequate salaries, much as the main character Julio Madiaga
had encountered with the construction workers. What does that
mean? Being unfamiliar with Manila, the main character was
victimized by the dishonest system created by those in a higher
position who overpowers the vulnerability of the people under
them. There's a threat, too, if they complain about their jobs.
Also in the mentioned film squatter areas are rampant and are
alarming. Throughout the film, prostitution was also depicted in
Ligaya's miserable situation. One night, Julio, the leading man,
killed a Chinese man in vengeance for Ligaya who had been
urgency, so that we can open our eyes to the plight of most
