Overview of IELTS
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardized test used for
education, work, and migration. It has four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and
Speaking.
1. Listening
● Duration: 30 minutes (+10 minutes to transfer answers)
● Sections: 4 (Conversations & Monologues)
● Tips:
○ Read questions before listening.
○ Focus on keywords.
○ Watch out for distractors (words that change the meaning).
○ Use correct spelling.
2. Reading
● Duration: 60 minutes
● Types: Academic (for study) & General Training (for work/migration)
● Tips:
○ Skim for the main idea.
○ Scan for specific information.
○ Manage time—don't spend too long on one question.
○ Look at headings & subheadings.
3. Writing
● Duration: 60 minutes
● Tasks:
○ Task 1: Describe a graph, table, chart, or map (Academic) OR write a letter
(General Training).
○ Task 2: Write an essay (both versions).
● Tips:
○ Plan before writing.
○ Use a clear structure (Introduction, Body, Conclusion).
○ Avoid repetition; use synonyms.
○ Check grammar and spelling.
