1. Cyclosporine (Sandimmune): Neurological complications, such as hand
tremors, occur in about 50% of clients taking cyclosporine.
2. Loperamide (Imodium): Antidiarrheal agent that should be used with
caution in clients taking high dosages of aspirin for arthritis
.
3. Albuterol (Proventil) tablets: Administering the dose with a snack helps
alleviate nausea as a side effect.
4. Digoxin for supraventricular tachycardia: Hypokalemia places the client at
greatest risk for dysrhythmias unresponsive to drug therapy.
5. Warfarin therapy: Prothrombin time (PT/INR) should be monitored regularly
for clients with PE.
6. Thyroid replacement hormone toxicity: Tachycardia and chest pain are
adverse effects indicating toxicity.
7. Sublingual nitroglycerin for anginal attack: Desired effect achieved when
the client states chest pain is relieved.
8. Scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop): Apply at least 4 hours prior to
departure to prevent motion sickness.
9. Adenosine (Adenocard): Apply continuous cardiac monitoring prior to
administration as it is used to restore normal sinus rhythm.
10. Clonidine (Catapres) via transdermal patch: Desired effect achieved when
blood pressure decreases from 180/120 to 140/70.
11. Isosorbide dinitrate (Imdur) dose increase: When headache occurs,
administer the 60 mg dose and a PRN dose of acetaminophen.
