, Impact of Formula 1 regulations on racing, competitiveness,
research, sustainability, engineering, technology, safety and life
beyond motorsport.
Abstract
I have great interest in Formula1 (F1) motorsport. I have been observing that every
year there is a change in F1 regulations, which bring about modifications or
sometimes even require teams to redesign their cars. My research study analyses
the changes in F1 regulations in last five years and how these impact design,
engineering, safety, inter team competitiveness, overall racing and marketability of
the sport. Motorsport, Automotive engineering and social media have all gone
through a drastic change in last five years. Some of these changes have been
positive as well as negative. F1 regulating bodies come up with new regulations
every year with the aim of making the sport safe and fair, however not all changes
bring in the desired changes. Some make drivers lives safe, while others provide a
loophole for the teams to get an edge over others by playing a dirty game (providing
dirty air and making overtaking impossible). I will be investigating how these
regulation changes have impacted Formula 1 scene focusing mainly on 2022
regulations. While my resources are mainly from various websites, forums and
research papers available over the internet and in the F1 circuit, I have also tried to
get some perspective of experts from Clemson university - International Center for
Automotive research (CU-ICAR) based in Greenville South Carolina USA and other
F1 experts like journalists, bloggers etc. to understand their perspective towards
these regulations.
Finally I will be collating my observations from my primary and secondary
sources and provide my perspective to conclude on the impact of F1 regulations
on racing, engineering, safety of human lives, competitiveness and marketability
and life beyond motor sport.
