Abortion

AFI
(Amniotic Fluid Index)= estimate of the amount of amniotic fluid and is an index for the fetal
well-being.
AGA/SGA/LGA
AGA= describes a fetus or newborn infant whose size is within the normal range for his or her
gestational age.
SGA= weight below the 10th percentile for the gestational age.
LGA= indication of high prenatal growth rate. LGA is oftendefined as a weight, length, or head
circumference that lies above the 90th percentile for that gestational age.
Ante- Intra- and Post-partum
Antepartum= occurring not long before childbirth
Intrapartum= period extends from the beginning of contractions that cause cervical dilation to
the first 1 to 4 hours after delivery of the newborn and placenta
Post-partum= following childbirth or the birth of young.
APGAR Scoring
A= appearance-how pink, P=pulse-HR 100+, G=grimace- cries, A=activity- muscle tone,
R=respiratory- reg, 30-60 a measure of the physical condition of a newborn infant. It is obtained
by adding points (2, 1, or 0) for heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, response to
stimulation, and skin coloration; a score of ten represents the best possible condition.
Atony
lack of physiological tone especially of a contractile organ
Biophysical profile (BPP)
measures your baby's heart rate, muscle tone, movement, breathing, and the amount of
amniotic fluid around your baby. A BPP is commonly done in the last trimester of pregnancy.
Assisted or Spontaneous Rupture of Membranes (AROM/ SROM)

induce or accelerate labor.
