NSTP (module 1)
National Defense Act - ANS -Also known as Commonwealth Act No.1
NSRC - ANS -Also referred to by Panlaang hukbong pambansang paglilingkod
National Service Training Program (NSTP) - ANS -refers to the program aimed at enhancing
civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth, by developing the ethics of service
and patriotism
Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) - ANS -refers to the program component,
institutionalized under Section 38 and 39 of Republic Act No. 7077
Literacy Training Service (LTS) - ANS -refers to the program component designed to train the
students to teach literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out-of-school youths ns other
segments of society in need of their services
Civil Welfare Training Service (CWTS) - ANS -refers to the program component or activities
contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community
or the enhancement of its facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education,
environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and moral of the citizenry and other social
welfare service
Clustering - ANS -refers to the groupings of students enrolled to different schools and taking up
the same NSTP component into one (1) group under the management and supervision of a
designated school
Cross Enrollment - ANS -refers to a system of enrollment where a student is officially enrolled
in an academic program of an origin school but is allowed to enroll in the NSTP component of
another accepting school
Non-government Organization (NGO) - ANS -refers to any private organization duly accredited
by CHED or recognized by TESDA
ROTC Student Cadet - ANS -refers to the student enrolled in the ROTC component
Bill of Rights - ANS -declaration and enumeration of a person's rights and privileges which the
constitution is designed to protect against violation by the government and other individuals
Panlasang Hukbong Pambansang Paglilingkod - ANS -a unit composed of graduates of the
CWTS and LTS components of the NSTP
a civic education and defense preparedness program in the Philippines
, members of this corps may be tapped by the state for literacy and civic welfare activities such
assisting in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response and rehabilitation programs
School- Based NSRC Units - ANS -refers to the established organization of students or
graduates of the CWTS or LTS components of the NSTP who are still enrolled in the HEIs ns

SERVICE LEARNING - ANS -refers to learning that actively involves students in a wide range

Spanish Years - ANS -Training course, similar to what is presently known as ROTC, at the
University of Sto. Tomas
1935 - ANS -Commonwealth Act No. 1, also known as National Defense Act, under President
Manuel Luis M. Quezon mandated the preservation of the state as an obligation of every citizen
and to supervise the conduct of pre military training.
• It was passed by the Philippine National Assembly on December 21, 1935.
• Purpose: To create an independent Philippine Army. This was, however, interrupted by World
War II
ROTC during the World War II - ANS -They were called to the be part of the country's army in
the battlefield
Post war - ANS -ROTC Course was made mandatory for all Colleges and Universities.
• This required curricular change with the incorporation of the NSTP Course
1980 - ANS -Presidential Decree no. 1706, otherwise known as the National Service Law,
which took effect on August 8, 1980, under President Ferdinand E. Marcos
• Mandated the compulsory national service for every Filipino citizen.
