Chandrayaan
Chandrayaan is India’s lunar exploration program,
developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation
(ISRO). The program consists of multiple missions:
1. Chandrayaan – I
2. Chandrayaan – II
3. Chandrayaan – III
1. Chandrayaan – I (2008):
It is the India’s first lunar mission, which
confirmed the presence of water molecules on
the surface of the Moon.
➢Launched :– October 22, 2008, from Satish
Dhawan Space Center SHAR in
Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
➢Reached the orbit of the Moon :- November
8, 2008.
➢Rocket :- Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle
(PSLV) – C11. (PSLV – XLC11).
➢Chairman of ISRO at the time of launch of
Chandrayaan – I :- Shri G. Madhavan Nair.
, ➢Chandrayaan – I consisted of only one
lunar orbiter and no lander or rover was
involved.
➢Chandrayaan – I was announced by Former
Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari
Vajpayee, on 15th August, 2003.
➢Mass of Chandrayaan – I :- 1380 Kg.
➢Mission life :- 2 years.
➢Power → 700 watts.
➢Chandrayaan – I stopped working on :-
August 29, 2009.
➢Cost :- 386 crores.
➢Lander :- Vikram.
➢Rover :- Pragyaan
➢Probe name :- Moon Impact Probe (MIP).
➢Crashpoint :- Jawahar Sthal or Jawahar
point ( November 14, 2008). The name was
suggested by India’s Former President
A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
➢Project director :- mylswamy Annadurai.
