or land under their control. Private applicators may apply restricted-use pesticides for others for
free or as an exchange for goods and services.
Structural Pest Control - Ans>>Use of a pesticide to control termites, roaches, fleas, wood
destroying organisms, rats, mice and other structural pests.
Wood Preservation Pest Control - Ans>>Application of a restricted-use pesticide to wood to limit
decay or insect attack..
SC Pesticide Control Act - Ans>>Requires all individuals who use pesticides or work in
Categories 3, 5, 7a, 7b, or 8 to become licensed in South Carolina.
The Department of Pesticide Regulation - Ans>>Licenses certified pesticide applicators In S.C.
and regulates the use of pesticides.
There are twelve categories of applicators for commercial and non-commercial applicators.
Category 8 is Public Health Pest Control.

Pesticide Registration - Ans>>Every pesticide used in SC must be registered and renewed
annually by September 1.
Licensing of Pesticide Dealers - Ans>>Persons who do not sell restricted-use pesticides or
Veterinarians are exempt for licensing. All dealers must pass a test.
Certification of Pesticide Applicators. - Ans>>Certified applicators include Private, commercial
and noncommercial. Each must be licensed annually.
Anyone perfoeming pest control in the commercial categories of 3,5, 7a, 7b, or 8 must be
licensed as a commercial applicator in these categories or work under the direct supervision of
a person licensed in these categories whether they use restricted-use pesticides or not.
Licenses - Ans>>All licenses expire on December 31st and must be renewed before January 1.
After April 1 a new test must be passed.
Veterinarians and medical personnel and both private and governmental employees applying
pesticides in the normal course of work are exempt from licenses and other requirements. -

Recertification of license - Ans>>All individuals who apply restricted-use pesticides must
become recertified every five years by attending recertification seminars or taking a test.
Commercial and noncommercial applicators must accumulate a specified number of Continuing
Certification Units (CCU) during each year of a recertification block of five years. Applicators
cannot wait until the last year of the 5 year term to get all of their CCU credits.
Pesticide Advisory Committee - Ans>>The committee is to advise the director on any or all
problems relating to the use and application of pesticides.
Structural Pest Control-Business License Requirement - Ans>>Only be issued to businesses
that have a full-time Category 7a-certified pesticide applicator in charge. this certified applicator
may only fill this role for one business.
