, CO1-PO1
CO1 :Compute forces and stability in
statically determinate and indeterminate
structures. (C3)
PO1 :Apply knowledge of mathematics,
natural science, engineering fundamentals and
an engineering specialization to wide practical
procedures and practices.
,LEARNING OUTCOMES (LO):
At the end of the lecture, student will be able to:
❑ analyze for axial force, shear and bending moment for
statically determinate frames.
, INTRODUCTION
• Frames - composed of straight members connected either by rigid
(moment-resisting) connections or by pinned/hinged connections to form
stable configurations.
• A frame - considered to be statically determinate if the bending moments,
shears and axial forces can be determined by using the equations of
equilibrium.
• Portal frame is widely used in construction of steel building. Typically it is
the most economical solution for large span applications, where the need
of area without column is required.
• Therefore, in order to select the member sizes of the frame, the need to
study the structural forces of the frame is necessary.
