Ideal and Real Fluid
Week 13
,Overview
3.4 Ideal fluid vs real fluid: Inviscid flow vs viscous flow
3.5 Reynold’s number: Laminar, transitional and turbulent flow,
fully developed flow
3.6 Flow over immersed bodies: boundary layer theory, lift and
drag
, Learning Outcomes
❖ Identify and compare ideal and real
fluid, Inviscid flow and viscous flow and
laminar and turbulent flow
❖Determine types of flow using Reynold
number
, Introduction
• Fluid statics and dynamics are divided into compressible and incompressible
as well as real and ideal fluids. So real is divided into the laminar and turbu
flow.
• Terms such as real fluid vs ideal fluid, Inviscid flow vs viscous, laminar vs turbu
flow will be defined.
