CRSS 444: CRIME SCENE MANAGEMENT

Course Purpose
This course deals with evidence protection, processing, maintaining the “chain”, admissibility and overall
crime scene management. The course will show students the importance of a professional approach to the
investigative process, scene preservation, preparation for and credible courtroom presentation.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Identify procedures for first responders to crime scenes.
2. Interpret information and evidence found at crime sites.
3. Document a crime scene through photographs, diagrams, and evidence collection.
4. Demonstrate the ability to locate and obtain information from blood and other biological
evidence.
5. Apply rules of investigative processes in crime scene investigations.
6. Interpret physical evidence.
7. Explain crime scene management uses (control, evidence search, processing, general area
investigation).
8. Identify critical ethical issues relating to criminal investigation.
9. Explain the role of the investigator in the judicial process.
