Critically analyzing maternal mortality rates has led me to having a greater understanding
of systemic issues that contribute to maternal mortality rates as well as a greater awareness of the
prevalence and impact of maternal mortality rates on all of society. Race, ethnicity, and social
status play large roles in many aspects of our lives, but I was unaware that the effect on
healthcare disparities was so severe. According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (2023), “Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related
