Occupational Therapy helps people of all ages to improve their daily life activities. It
helps people with physical, cognitive and sensory problems. Occupational therapy is used with
kids mostly where it improves their fine motor skills such as grasping and writing. Also it helps
them improve hand-eye coordination and also it helps the child to learn self-help skills such as
brushing teeth, hair combing, bathing and getting dressed. It helps the individuals to overcome
challenges they might face while performing daily life activities and also it helps them to be
independent (Reed & Sanderson, 1999).
History of Occupational Therapy
Eleanor Clarke Slagle, was the founder of Occupational therapy in 20th century. In 1915
he introduced the first Occupational therapy training program which is highly important in the
field of health profession. Over the time Occupational therapy has been evolved according to the
needs of the individuals and its scope is expanded as well.

Initially Occupational therapy is used to treat people with mental illness but later on, it is
then used to treat people with physical, cognitive and sensory impairments. Occupational therapy
adapted changes according to the need of the client and now it is widely used in Pakistan as well
(Quiroga, 1995).

Assessment are used to collect the data about client. It involves interviews, observation, and
history taking and testing as well. The Occupational Therapist collect the data about client to
identify any barriers to success and also to set goals in order to achieve them. The Occupational
therapist examine the client in the clinic as well as at home setting, workplace or any other
environment to identify where the client needs support.
