Q: What is furosemide (Lasix) used for


Ans: Loop diuretic that increases the secretion of sodium and water by the
kidneys by inhibiting their reabsorption from the proximal and distal tubules. It
is used to treat fluid retention in people with congestive heart failure and it
treats hypertension.



Q: Warnings for furosemide(Lasix)


Ans: Certain medications should not be taken with furosemide. Can cause
dehydration and electrolyte imbalance if take too much of this medication.
Verify correct dosage. Monitor fluid intake/output. Do not stop drug abruptly.
Can cause low blood pressure, monitor BUN, creatinine, electrolytes,
potassium, may need potassium supplement while taking this medication.
Avoid taking before bedtime since the individual will need to get up
frequently to urinate. If you miss a dose take it as soon as noticed but don't
take it if it is close to next dose. Monitor sodium in diet. Call dr. if have little to
no urine output. Use with caution in geriatric, pediatric population and
individuals with severe renal and hepatic disease

painful urination, headache, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, abdominal
cramping, diiness or blurred vision, photosensitivity, high blood sugar, leg
cramps, easy bruising, hypersensitivity, hypotension, hypokalemia,
electrolyte imbalance, worsening renal diseasezz
