How does additional body weight affect physical status?
Additional body weight has a significant impact on the physical status of an individual.
First, it causes an increased risk of having cardiovascular conditions. Some cardiovascular issues
a person with additional body weight is likely to develop are hypertension, stroke, and heart
disease. Cardiovascular diseases not only lead to the deterioration of physical well-being but are
also fatal. Secondly, having additional weight leads to respiratory issues such as sleep apnea.
Extra weight leads to the reduction of lung capacity to handle breathing, causing complications
in some of the lung functions (Chooi et al., 2019). Thirdly, obesity causes physical mobility
problems and strain on the musculoskeletal. An individual with additional weight may need help
to move around with ease. Fourth, it causes joint stress, such as the knees or shoulders, causing
strain and inflammation when moving around. Additional weight is linked to some types of
cancers, such as esophageal, uterine, kidney, and liver, among other forms of cancers.
