Chemical Kinetics Notes for JEE
Chemical Kinetics Notes for JEE
1. Rate of Reaction
- The rate of a reaction is the change in concentration of reactants or products per unit time.
Rate = -d[R]/dt = d[P]/dt
2. Rate Law and Order of Reaction
- Rate Law: Rate = k[A]^m [B]^n
where m, n are the orders with respect to reactants A and B.
- Overall order = m + n
3. Integrated Rate Equations
- Zero Order: [A] = [A]0 - kt
Half-life (t1/2) = [A]k
- First Order: ln[A] = ln[A]0 - kt
Half-life (t1/2) = 0.693 / k
- Second Order: 1/[A] = 1/[A]0 + kt
4. Arrhenius Equation
- k = A * exp(-Ea/RT)
where Ea = Activation Energy, R = Gas Constant, T = Temperature
