Introduction
As an IT specialist at InoDev, my role is to encourage greater use of IT in the company’s
productions. With this intention, I have started. I have been tasked to create a 2D and 3D design
as a Victorian upper-class-themed presentation for my client White Goose. This is being
developed to prepare for the upcoming theatre presentation of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance
of Being Earnest. My responsibility is to build this luxurious atmosphere that will attract the
audience with this artistic vision of the production. Finally, after I have done with the design, I
will work with my client White Goose to ensure I have met all their requirements and the overall
theatre experience.
,The purpose
The purpose of this stage is to build a Victorian-era setting that reflects Algernon's morning
room in Act 1. The purpose is to portray luxuriousness by creating an authentic atmosphere in
the late Victorian upper-class lifestyle. By creating this lifestyle includes rich textures and
classic designs to replicate the 1837 environment that highlights Algernon's wealth. Objects
that will be included in this design are an entrance, exit, and luxurious furniture to create a
strong artistic vision to appeal to the audience's immersive environment, allowing to support
White Goose's requirements by maintaining these objects in 2D and 3D graphics to contribute
to a theatre experience. The basic objects used as furniture in this setting are a sofa, chairs,
tables and Paiano, as they are essential to portray an upper-rich class. The entrance and exits
will be needed for actor movements and other objects will be necessary to portray elegance in
the environment.
Scope
As the project is representing Algernon's wealth and status by creating its morning room, that
includes the scope of designing the stage layout, background, flooring, and furniture. These
objects will help maintain the environment luxurious and rich in the late Victorian era. The stage
design would be 3D involving the furniture, doors, and all the other objects, whereas in 2D, it
would be the textures and paintings that will ensure a feel of the Victorian era. The main aim is
to strengthen these experiences for the audience to ensure everything designed meets White
Goose's requirements. Once I have finished with this 2D and 3D design, I will work with my
clients to get a review and feedback from them to give me input on whether it aligns with their
vision to make sure this is the final product or not.
Client's requirements
• The 3D stage model of Algernon’s morning room must involve suitable design elements
within the given period.
• The 2D components must include paints, wallpapers, and texture.
• The 3D components must consist of doors, tables, and other furniture.
• The dimension of the overall stage size should be 10m wide, 9m deep, and 5m high.
• There should be entrance and exit doors and one to an adjoining room.
• The design should include a scenery painted on the backdrop entrance to the flat and
the furniture.
• There should be a sofa, and tables placed in the center of the stage for Algernon.
• A team table is required for Lane to serve his sandwiches and cucumber.
• Long curtains and shelves should be used to make it look vintage.
• A piano for the adjoining room.
• There should be a carpet textured with the Victorian design.
• A wall painting or any sketches in the background.
• The 2D textures should be delivered in PNG files to maintain their quality as they involve
high resolution.
, • The 3D designs must be created in a compatible format such as OBJ to integrate into the
theatre's visual tools.
Target audience
The target audience for this theatre is mostly adults over 18 who are interested in these classic
performances. This is primarily targeted to the audience fascinated by plays like Oscar Wilde’s
The Importance of Being Earnest and appreciates their work that explores plays, dramas,
comedies, and characters with accurate costumes and background settings. The stage is also
created for the actors to interact with the environment to implement their talent to the
audience. This also helps the production team in this play, who designs their costumes, and the
director to align an artistic vision of the drama while meeting the technical and logistical needs.
The client, White Goose, expects a quality for the background that fits the storytelling of this
play and to pleasantly engage their audience and not distract them with the actors but how
complement the tone of their play. This allows the audience to balance them by giving full
attention to the play and the settings.
They also require building everything within a certain budget by implementing a realistic
portrayal of the Victorian upper-rich class stage. The design must be easier to fluctuate for easy
scene changes, making it flexible to adjust settings without interrupting the audience while
performing. The production team must design and stage it well so that it is effective and brings
up a stage that interacts with all scenes to allow smooth integration of set pieces. Overall, all
these designs should meet the client's requirements, White Goose, to create the best
experience for both actors and the audience to enhance the story by maintaining a visually
appealing stage. The stage and designs also must reflect the theme, which is the Victorian
period, allowing it to show elegance while keeping it vintage. All these designed buildings must
be within their budget and maintained to impress White Goose with the look and performance
of the stage, which can handle multiple performances within the Victorian-themed era.
