Identify Patient Safety Risks - Find out which patients are most likely to try and
commit suicide
Preent Mistakes in surgery - * Make sure that the correct surgery is done on the
correct patient and at the correct place on the patient's body
* Mark the correct place on the patient's body where the surgery is to be done
* Pause before the surgery to make sure that a mistake is not being made
Speak with your supervisor - It is important for you to speak with your supervisor to
understand the protocol for suspected abuse put into place by your specific facility,
and to understand legal requirements in your state.
Focus on: Child abuse - * Physical abuse
* Neglect
* Sexual abuse
* Emotional abuse
General signs of child abuse include - * Shows sudden changes in behavior or
school performance
* Has not received help for physical or medical problems brought to the parent's
attention
* Has learning problems (or difficulty concentrating) that cannot be attributed to
specific physical or psychological causes
* Is always watchful, as though preparing for something bad to happen
* Lacks adult supervision
* Is overly compliant, passive, or withdrawn
* Does not want to go home
* Is reluctant to be around a particular person
* Discloses maltreatment

stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in
providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value
National Patient Safety Goals - The Joint Commission determines the highest priority
patient safety issues and how best to address them
Identify Patients Correctly - Use at least two ways to identify patients. For example,
use the patient's name and date of birth. This is done to make sure that each patient
gets the correct medicine and treatment. Make sure that the correct patient gets the
correct blood when they get a blood transfusion
