Federal, state and local agencies related to informatics reminds me of
federal, state and local taxes. Our government taxes are regulated and
there are standards and guidelines that taxpayers must follow. In
healthcare, there are many potential safety, security and privacy, and
compliance issues related to health Informatics, and are regulated by
federal, state and local agencies. Nationally, or federally, the ANA,
(American Nurse’s Association), is an organization that sets standards for
nursing practices for all nurses, whether undergraduates or graduates.
These are policies and safeguards that each nurse follows regardless of
their role or where they practice (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018). More
locally, there is The Joint Commission, (TJC). In the facility where I work,
we recently had a visit from this organization. TJC is responsible for making
sure that all local hospitals are providing the most effective quality of care
in the safest way possible. Prior to the TJC coming to our unit, I as a PCNA
asked my nurse manager if there was anything I needed to know
specifically if approached by a member of TJC ? My nurse manager
informed me that they mostly focus their attention on the RNs. Their goal is
not only to make sure hospitals are providing the safest care possible to
patients, but they are also concerned with making sure the nurses have all
the resources possible to implement the care. In addition, TJC allows for
nurses to provide them feedback on their overall satisfaction, suggestions
to improve employee satisfaction, etc., so that the TJC can implement
strategies to reduce employee turnaround. This organization also makes
sure that there are committees among the hospital as well as each unit or
