BIOLOGY
INTRODUCTION
Viruses do not show any molecular
movement.
Oxidizing and reducing reaction are
common chemical means for break-down of
food.
The process of acquiring oxygen from
outside the body, the body and to use it in
the process of breaking food sources for
cellular needs is respiration.
We need material from outside in order to
grow develop, synthesize protein and other
substances
ENERGY SOURCES: FOOD
Some organisms use simple food material
obtained from inorganic sources in carbon
dioxide and water form.
, Others break complex substance into
simpler ones.
To do this ~ Enzymes
Ex: Animal
Fungi
ENZYMES: It is a substance that acts as a
catalyst in living
organisms, regulating the rate at which
chemical reactions proceed without itself
being attired in process.
PHOTOSYNTHESIS: is a process by which
autotrophs take in substances from outside
and convert them into stored form of carbon
dioxide and water .
Excess of energy is stored in the form of
starch in plants(internal energy reserve).
Energy from food we eat is stored as
GLYCOGEN in human beings.
Cells in a leaf = Mesophyll cells.
SUNLIGHT
6CO2 +12H2O C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O
CHLOROPHYLL
EVENTS DURING PHOTOSYNTHESIS:
Absorption of light energy.
Conversion of light energy to chemical
energy and splitting water into hydrogen and
oxygen.
Reduction of carbon dioxide into glucose.
Ex: Xerophytes take carbon dioxide at
night and make Malic acid which is acted
upon by chlorophyll during day.
