SIEV (Sand, Icing, Extreme turb, volcanic Ash)

2. Severe/extreme turbulence or CAT, not associated with a t-storm
3. Dust or sandstorms lowering inflight vis to less then 3 miles
4. Volcanic Ash
What is a convective SIGMET?
implies sever or greater turbulence, severe icing and low-level wind shear. A convective SIGMET
applies to all categories of aircraft. The forecast is valid for up to 2 hours

SEAL (Severe, Embedded, Area, Line)

-Hail greater then 3/4 in diameter

Weather advisory issued for less severe conditions then a SIGMET. They are issued ever 6 hours.

Sierra- IFR conditions and/or mountain obscuration
Tango- Moderator turbulence, and/or sustained winds of 30 kts or >
Zulu- Moderate icing
What is a winds and temps aloft forecast?
computer prepared forecasts of wind direction, speed, and air temperature at specified altitudes for
specified locations and times. They are produced 4 times daily. They are not issued within 1,500 ft of
the locations elevation.
