What is equality?
Treating people equally by adapting procedures and practises to suit all. All individuals must
be given the same choices and opportunities regardless of their differences.
What is diversity?
recognising and valuing that every individual is unique and respecting individual differences
What are rights?
Things people are entitled to and protected by law.
What are the rights?
Choice, confidentiality, protection from harm and abuse, equal and fair treatment,
consultation, right to life.
What does choice mean?
Individuals have control over their lives which increases self esteem because it promotes
independence
What does confidentiality mean?
Private information should only be shared with people involved with the individuals care.
What does protection from harm and abuse mean?
Safeguarding procedures should be in place and health and safety legislation should be
followed.
What is equal and fair treatments?
People using or working in health, social or childcare services should be treated within the
law.
Consultation meaning?
Individuals using health and social care services should be asked for opinions about care and
treatments
What is right to life?
An individual's life is protected by human rights law; everyone's right to life should be valued
and respected.
