• The IIC offers two designation programs: the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and
Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP)
• As well members can further their skills and abilities through a wide range of certificate and
professional development programs.
The IIC was formed in 1952 by the existing provincial institutes in British Columbia, Manitoba,
Ontario, and Quebec. It is responsible for the following:
• 1. The maintenance and upgrading of professional education programs in property and
casualty (P & C) insurance on a uniform and national basis.
• 2. conducting national examinations, grading the entries, and awarding diplomas to graduates
• 3. providing independent study courses accessible from any location for members
• 4. reaching out to the next generation of industry employees by supplying information about
careers in the (P&C) insurance industry.

• They assist members in gaining access to the national programs and examinations either by
