Grammar
Zero conditional and conditional Type I(first conditional)
Objective: At the end of this lesson, the Students will be able to identify Zero conditional and first
conditional.
* A Conditional sentence gives a condition (eg., If it rains) and the outcome of the condition occurring
(eg, the game will be cancelled).
If it rains, the game will be cancelled
It is a Sentence that expresses a hypothetical Situation and its possibly outcome .
A conditional sentences have two Parts:
1 A condition (if clause)
* The condition introduced by the word "if" or unless
2 A result (main clause)
*The result is the outcome of the condition.
Type of conditional Sentences
1.Zero Conditional
Form :In zero conditional sentences, the tense in both parts of the sentence is the simple present.
If clause (condition) Main clause (result)
If + simple present simple present
If this thing happens that thing happens.
instructions, using the imperative in the main clause. As in all conditional sentences, the order of the
clauses is not fixed. You may have to rearrange the pronouns and adjust punctuation when you change
the order of the clauses, but the meaning is identical. In zero conditional sentences, you can replace "if"
with "when", because both express general truths. The meaning will be unchanged.
Examples
If you heat ice, it melts.
Ice melts if you heat it.
When you heat ice, it melts.
