MPTC EVOC LYNNFIELD EXAM QUESTIONS & CORRECT
ANSWERS LATEST 2025

Two types of weight shift (Transfer)
Longitudinal and lateral
What is longitudinal weight transfer?
Happens when the car is accelerating or braking. Creates more rolling friction.
What is lateral weight transfer?
occurs when the vehicle turns
What can create less lateral weight transfer and more control of the vehicle?
Smooth steering
What is centrifugal force?
pulls a moving object outward from the center of rotation
What is centripetal force?
pull a moving object inward toward the center of rotation
What is the most critical factor is motor vehicle operations?
The driver (They account for 90% of all MV crashes)
Correct seating position
-Seated upright with shoulders against the seat
-upper arms rest against rib cage with elbow at a slight bend

, correct hand positioning for high and low speed driving tasks
3 & 9 o'clock
correct hand positioning for tight, low speed turns
hand-over-hand
correct hand positioning for backing up
one hand
What does ESC (Electronic Stability Control) do?
When turned on, integrates vehicles ABS, traction control, and yaw control
systems to control vehicle when lateral forces exceed surface friction, speeds
exceed the threshold, or the vehicle begins to slide /skid.
What is threshold braking?
used to reduce speed or stop the vehicle as quickly as possible with minimal
steering adjustment.
How can you perform a threshold brake?
apply and maintain the maximum amount of pedal pressure without activating
ABS, locking up the wheels, or skidding. Gradually release brake pressure as
needed to avoid ABS activation or skidding.
Over-steering
vehicles rear tires lose traction and skid to the outside of a turn
What can cause over-steer?
-improper air tire pressure
-braking too hard into a turn
-abruptly releasing accelerator going into turn
-turning too sharp or fast to cause unnecessary lateral weight transfer
How to correct over-steer
-ease off the throttle
