,INTRODUCTION:
Definition:
A cyst is defined as a pathological cavity having fluid, semi-fluid, or gaseous co
which is not created by the accumulation of pus. ( KRAMER 1974)
o A cyst is essentially an enclosed sac formed by the cluster of cells, which
together.
o The unique characteristic of a cyst is that the cells that form the outer covering
sac are abnormal from the surrounding normal cells of that specific region.
o Most cysts, but not all, are lined by epithelium.
o May occur within the bone or soft tissue.
,TYPES OF CYSTS:
True cysts
Pseudo cysts
Cysts lined by an epithelium are more common in both jawbones than any
regions of the body because of great many epithelial cell rests present in
proximity to the developing jaw bones, and they are called True Cysts.
Ex., Radicular cyst, Dentigerous cysts, etc.
Pseudocysts do not have an epithelial lining,
Ex., Solitary bone cysts, Cysts of maxillary antrum,
