, INTRODUCTION
Proteins are the building blocks of life. They
are complex macromolecules composed of
amino acids linked together by peptide bonds.
These amino acids are arranged in a specific
sequence, which determines the protein’s
structure and function. Proteins play a crucial
role in various biological processes, including
enzymes, hormones, antibodies, and structural
components.
, PROTEINS
Proteins are the chief constituents of all living matter.
They contain carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulphur
and some contain phosphorus also.
1. Proteins are the essence of life processes.
2. They are the fundamental constituents of all
protoplasm and are involved in the structure of the
living cell and in its function.
3. Enzymes are made up of proteins.
4. Many of the hormones are proteins.
5. Protein are extremely complicated and nitrogenous
molecule made up of variable number of amino acid
residue joined to each other by a specific covalent bond
called peptide bond.
6. 20 amino acid which have been found to occur in all
proteins, known as standard amino acid.
