Elimination Diet
Within this section of our paper, we will look into the information on elimination diets
according to the article by Bottelier et al. (2017). Within this paper, it is discussed how altering a
child or adult's diet can have a direct effect on their mental well-being. According to the research
within the paper by Bottelier et al. (2017), several participants had more significant focus, helped
with some dietary issues, and could alter forms of behavior and their emotional well-being. The
paper gives some ideas as to what specific elimination diets were used, and the most common is
that of processed foods and gluten as possibilities or allergen triggers, according to Bottelier et
, al. (2017). They also discussed how to implement this treatment in their homes to aid in the
testing of this paper. The science behind what they were looking for is comprehensive regarding
specific goals Bottelier et al. (2017). By the end of the paper, it is discussed that more research
will be needed for elimination diets (Bottelier et al., 2017).
How, then, can we implement this idea into applied behavioral analysis or a behavior
plan? Having a client who is already on an elimination diet (Bottelier et al., 2017) at the clinic,
we need more workers to do this. A client would be given a lunch that would be comprised of
foods that they are allowed to have. Should a parent ask us to monitor the client's behaviors and
see if we can trace them back to when the elimination diet began to see if it is helping, a parent
could also ask us to use these plans. However, as we look closer at this in the paper, we may be
heading into some ethical issues should we try to implement this plan.
Pros and Con to Controversial Treatment
Elimination diets have some merit to them when looking at the pros side. Should we have
a non-verbal client who just began ABA with autism who has some irritable bowel syndromes
and is in a constant state of pain, would that client be able to tell the people working with them
