Introduction
In the previous assignment, I selected the Behavior Analytic Assessment category of
tests. Within that category were my three test selections of the Verbal Behavior Milestones
Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), Assessment of Basic Language and Learning
Skills - Revised (ABLLS-R), and Promoting the Emergence of Advanced Knowledge (PEAK).
These three tests measure skills and deficiencies of children, many diagnosed with intellectual
, disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Using these three assessments can assist in
identifying developmental deficits, and building programming around necessary skill acquisition.
The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) is a
commonly used assessment focusing on assessing language and social skills in children with
intellectual disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (Sundberg, 2008). Sundberg (2008)
describes further that the VB-MAPP has heavy roots in applied behavior analysis, as well as
Skinner’s (1957) analysis of verbal behavior. The VB-MAPP is a criterion-referenced
assessment tool divided into 16 domains, each containing between 5 and 15 milestone targets.
The milestones are then contained within three age groups: 0-18 months (Level 1), 18-30 months
(Level 2), and 30-48 months (Level 3).
The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills - Revised (ABLLS-R) is a
criterion-referenced assessment tool, curriculum guide, and skills tracking system needed for
basic language and communication development (Gabig, 2021). The ABLLS-R reviews 544
skills spanning 25 different areas of acquisition including language, social interaction, self-help,
academic, and motor skills (Partington et al., 2018).
Promoting the Emergence of Advanced Knowledge Training System (PEAK; Dixon,
2014) is a criterion-referenced assessment and curriculum tool designed to measure language and
