Gender and Work-Life Balance
Fig Technologies has tasked me with presenting an overview of industry data on gender
and work life attitudes. From there, I will assess the position of project managers in two
geographical areas. In this assessment I will analyze gender in the workplace, the benefits of
, offering child and elder care and flexible schedules in their organization, and how work-life
balance can benefit their company.
Over the years there has been disparities between gender in the workplace regarding pay,
positions, and promotions due to bias and stereotyping (Bell, 2017). Regardless of education
level, family status, and experience, women are paid less than men in all industries, even
women-dominated industries such as administrative and secretarial positions (Bell, 2017). In all
age groups after 24 years old, the number of women exceed men on our planet and women have
longer life expectancies than men, yet only 60 percent of women participate in the workforce
(Bell, 2017). Women are devalued as employees, where working in women dominated jobs has a
negative effect on income (Bell, 2017). Women earn a total of 66 percent of men's earnings and
56 percent of women live in poverty (Bell, 2017). Black and Hispanic women who have more
education than their co-ethnic men occupy the lowest income and lowest status job positions
(Bell, 2017). Regardless of education level, men's earnings exceed women due to sex segregation
of jobs and women working part-time hours (Bell, 2017). It is expected that women will be home
with their families and men will be the sole earner for those families (Bell, 2017).
Flexible work schedules and flexible work responsibilities would be advantages to
employees because it would increase their ability of meeting work and family needs and allow
them to deal with her day-to-day emergencies (Bell, 2017). It provides an opportunity to work,
advance, and be paid fairly without penalty due to gender or parental status (Bell, 2017). It is
