Vascularization
, Arterial System
1.The Carotid System (Anterior)
Structure:
- Two internal carotid arteries (right and left), originating from the common carotid
- Enter the skull through the carotid canal and branch into several important arteries.
Main Branches and Functions:
✔ Ophthalmic artery – supplies the eye and orbital structures.
✔ Posterior communicating artery – connects the carotid system to the vertebroba
of the circle of Willis).
✔ Anterior choroidal artery – supplies deep brain structures (hippocampus, interna
tract).
✔ Anterior cerebral artery – supplies the frontal lobe, upper part of the parietal lob
callosum, and the medial part of the cerebral hemispheres.
✔ Middle cerebral artery – the largest branch of the internal carotid artery, supplyin
surface of the cerebral cortex (frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes), including areas a
movement and language.
• The carotid system supplies:
• The anterior two-thirds of the cerebral hemispheres
• The frontal and parietal lobes
• Most motor and sensory areas
