Abnormal midwifery deals with deviations from the normal course of pregnancy, labor, and
postpartum, which may require medical or surgical interventions to ensure maternal and fetal
well-being.

1. Abnormal Pregnancy
A. Hyperemesis Gravidarum
Severe, persistent nausea and vomiting leading to dehydration and weight loss.
Management: IV fluids, antiemetics, nutritional support.
B. Gestational Hypertension & Preeclampsia
High blood pressure after 20 weeks of gestation.
Signs: Hypertension, proteinuria, edema.
Complications: Eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, fetal growth restriction.
Management: Antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate, delivery if severe.
C. Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM)
High blood sugar levels during pregnancy.
Risks: Macrosomia, neonatal hypoglycemia, preterm labor.
