In the book “Exploring Interpersonal Communication” Mclean states that the single most important facial gesture in mainstream U.S. culture is eye contact. (Mclean 2022). My goal is to improve my ability to maintain consistent and appropriate eye contact during conversations, helping me appear more engaged and confident. Effective eye contact is a crucial aspect of nonverbal communication as it signals attentiveness, understanding, and connection with the other person (Beebe et al., 2022). By developing this skill, I aim to enhance the quality of my interactions and foster stronger connections. C. Establish a Plan To improve my eye contact, I will first practice active listening in controlled settings, such as with close friends or family, where I can consciously focus on making eye contact without the pressure of formal interactions. According to Goman (2013), maintaining eye contact for 50-70% of a conversation creates the ideal balance of
