Zoology (/zoʊˈɒlәdʒi/, zoh-OL-luh-jee) or
animal biology, is the branch of biology that
relates to the animal kingdom, including the
structure, embryology, evolution,
classification, habits, and distribution of all
animals, both living and extinct, and how
they interact with their ecosystems.

ZOOL100 Unit Objectives
Students will be able to:
– demonstrate an understanding of animal evolution;
– demonstrate an understanding of the major animal
groups;
– demonstrate an understanding of how animals interact
with each other, other native/exotic species, and
humans;
– recognise the important roles that different animals play
in a variety of ecosystems; and
– apply basic skills in field natural history by watching and
recording a range of animal behaviours in natural and
domestic environments.
