• To understand where, when and why animal life
originated
• To understand how evolution shapes animals
– and thus diversity both past and present
• To analyse what the Theory of Natural
Selection predicts, and illustrate several examples
that fit those predictions
• Address some common misrepresentations
concerning evolution and predictions arising from
these theories
