THE UNHEARD STORY OF WOMEN IN INDIA
There was a time when women were worshipped even by the gods in the form of “Radha and
Lakshmi” but today the demons are engulfing the love and prestige of our women and we are
just onlookers.
We all live in a society where we hail our own motherland as “BHARATMATA” but the
unbeatable and bitter fact is that behind every successful women today there was a man who
tried to stop her, who tried to break her. It is a matter of great concern how our country has now
become the fourth most dangerous place for women to reside in. Be it the era of Draupadi or
Mata Sita, women had to continuously suffer through the hands of the society.
What I believe is, there are two notions in regard to this problem:
The first reason is, “the rotten mentality of male dominance in the society”. Remember how
three women were stripped naked, were paraded by a mob of hundreds and then allegedly gang
raped in Manipur, remember how a doctor herself was raped brutally and then killed in her own
hospital in Kolkata, what do you think what leads to such incidents? The answer is quite simple;
it is the urge of toxic masculinity which takes toll over the mind of a man. I want myself to be
very clear with the fact that when we talk about women empowerment, the emphasis is not to
make women powerful than men, but the idea is to let women be empowered within themselves.
The greatest concern becomes the reality check of how our judicial system, our society and we as
a country fail to protect our own mothers, daughters and sisters.
In 2022, there were nearly 6,400 reported cases of dowry deaths in India. The declining sex ratio
in Northern and Northwestern states which is causing bride crises in these areas tells how female
feticide is still immensely prevalent in our society. Brutal rapes being a part of daily newspaper
headline has left everyone to think whether rapes have become normal in India. Let alone the
topic of discussing the lives of those who are trapped in the unescapable cobweb of brothels and
human trafficking because we the society has very evidently and has wrongly misinterpreted the
famous third teaching of Gandhiji- “BURA MATT DEKHO”. Remember the case when a
teenage girl after being raped, had been roamed naked in the streets of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh,
seeking for help for hours and only finding nobody who would help her. Isn’t it shameful for us
