1. Introduction to GD&T
GD&T is a symbolic language used on engineering drawings to define the allowable variation in form,
orientation, location, and profile of a part feature. Standardized by ASME Y14.5.
2. Benefits of GD&T
- Ensures interchangeability of parts.
- Improves communication between design, manufacturing, and inspection.
- Increases tolerancing flexibility while ensuring part functionality.
3. GD&T Symbols Overview
Form: Straightness, Flatness, Circularity, Cylindricity
Orientation: Perpendicularity, Parallelism, Angularity
Location: Position, Concentricity, Symmetry
Runout: Circular Runout, Total Runout
Profile: Profile of a Line, Profile of a Surface
4. Feature Control Frame
A rectangular box containing:
- GD&T symbol
- Tolerance value
- Datum references (if any)
Example: |Diameter|0.1|A|B|
5. Datum System
Datum: A theoretical exact point, axis, or plane used as a reference for measuring and manufacturing.
Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary datum sequence used for 3D part control.
6. Tolerance Zone
