1. Explain the symptoms and signs of digestive system disorders.

-bleeding - diarrhea

-bloating - heartburn

-incontinence - pain in the belly

-weight gain or loss - nausea

-constipation




2. Describe the physical examination of the digestive system (not tests or scans -
describe here the things that a medical professional would do to/with you in the exam
room with regard to physically assessing your situation that might help them diagnose
you or determine which tests they need to run).

3. Describe each of the following tests used in the diagnosis of
gastrointestinal disorders.

A. upper GI series- X-ray examination of the upper gastrointestinal
(GI) tract. The esophagus, stomach, and duodenum are made visible on
X-ray film by a liquid suspension.




B. barium enema- X-ray exam that can detect changes or
abnormalities in the large intestine




C. liver biopsy - A liver biopsy is commonly performed by inserting a
thin needle through your skin and into your liver

8. Why do you need to assess liver structure and function? Because the
blood leaving the stomach and intestines passes through the liver.




9. Hepatitis- Hepatitis refers to an inflammatory condition of the liver.
It's commonly caused by a viral infection, but there are other possible
causes of hepatitis.
