Medication Errors
Plaguing the medical field is the often-preventable event of a medication error.
Medication errors are defined as the event in which a patient has received a medication that has
been given to them in error where the safe administration and consideration of the medication
has been overlooked. This paper aims to inform the reader of how medication errors are related
to the nursing profession. Also included in this paper is an annotated bibliography where four
articles have been selected and evaluated for credibility. Such articles showcase the prevalence
of medication errors, the classification of medical errors, and interventions to prevent such errors
from happening. All articles were found in the Capella University library database. Lastly,
evaluate how the information will affect professional practice moving forward.
Professional Relevance
As nurses administering medications, it is imperative that the proper checks be made
including that the right medication is being given to the right person, at the ordered dose, at the
proper time via the ordered route. Although nurses are the last line of defense for patients
regarding medication checks, medication errors can happen at any part of the process from
prescribing to monitoring the patient after a medication has been given. The administration of
, medication falls primarily on the nurse, therefore, educating nurses on the prevention of
medication errors including identifying system breakdowns and errors in the continuum of the
medication before it reaches the patient.

Regarding medication errors, it is important to select the information that properly
explains the issues regarding the topic, but also has a proper flow for the paper-writing process.
