Assessment 01 – Enhancing Quality and Safety
It takes a team to obtain positive patient outcomes. The team includes health care
providers such as physicians, therapists, nurses, caregivers, and patients. Patient education is
essential to positive patient outcomes. Educated patients and caregivers are better equipped to
make good decisions regarding their healthcare by being informed about their condition and the
plan of care for the condition including therapies and medications and the role each play in
obtaining positive outcomes for the patient. When patients understand their medical conditions
and the treatment for the conditions, they are more likely to adhere to the treatment plan resulting
in improvements to quality of life, fewer hospital visits, and improved disease management
(Fahad Alhassoon et al., 2022, p. 2175).
Explain factors leading to a specific patient-safety risk in a health care setting.
When patients do no understand their diagnosis and treatments for their conditions, they
are more likely to not be compliant with the plan of care/treatment plan. They also are less likely
, to recognize changes that may require interventions from their physicians and/or health care
teams. When they are not compliant with the plan of care and disease management, they are
more susceptible to adverse outcomes (The Impact of Knowledge: Patient Education Improves
Compliance and Outcomes, n.d.).
Evidence has shown that patient education is crucial to improving patient compliance and
outcomes. When patients and caregivers understand the patient’s medical treatment and the care
plan to treat the condition, they will be more sure of their roles within the care plan. When they
know why they are taking a medication or conducting a task they will be more likely to complete
these tasks as ordered. Likewise, they must be aware of problems that are common with
