Introduction
Hello, my name is Rebecca. Today, I will present a health promotion plan for children
and adolescents who are overweight or obese. Overweight and obesity in children and
adolescents have become a growing global health concern with far-reaching physical, mental,
and social consequences. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2024),
approximately 19.3% of children aged 2-19 years are considered obese here in the United
States, highlighting the urgent need for effective intervention strategies. This health
promotion plan aims to educate children, adolescents, as well as their families about the risks
associated with obesity, and how we can promote healthy eating and physical activity habits
that foster positive mental well-being. By addressing these key factors, this plan seeks to
reduce the prevalence of obesity and its related health issues while supporting long-term
health improvement for you through education, behavioral changes, and community
engagement.

significant physical, mental, and social consequences. The first goal of this health promotion
plan is to increase your knowledge of the effects of being overweight and obesity on your
physical and mental health (Yu et al., 2020). Is anyone willing to share their personal
experiences on how being overweight or obese has affected your physical and mental health?
The intended overall result is that 80% of you will be able to list at least three health effects
you have experienced by the end of this program. Some of these might include a higher
chance of getting type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and experiencing depression or anxiety,
amongst other complications. Your understanding will be checked via a post-session quiz and
a group discussion with me at the end of this session. Utilizing a more engaged, data-driven
manner like this will assist you all in learning more about the implications of being
