M4- Importance of risk assessment.
Why taking out a risk assessment is important?
There are many reasons why taking out a risk assessment in a workplace is important. One of the
reasons is that it will allow the employer to spot different types of hazards within the workplace.
Once, the employer has spotted these hazards, he is able to t note down how harmful these hazards
are and then can easily spot which of the the workers are at risk. This is beneficial to the employer
because he can now prevent this hazard, stop his worker from being at risk and preventing any
injuries that could occur. Furthermore, if the employer didn’t do the risk assessment, a lot of the
workers will be at risk and if any worker gets injured within the workplace due to that hazard, the
employer will receive punishments. The risk assessments help the employer to improve the safety of
his workers within the workplace by providing any protective equipment or placing protective
equipment.
The HSE has given 5 main steps of out to carry out a risk assessment. The first 3 steps are identifying
the hazards in workplace, who is at risk and danger of that hazard. It is important not to skip these 3
steps and just do the 4th step, which is record risk assessment findings. This is because, if an
employer misses these steps, they are not looking for hazards in the workplace meaning that you are
putting the workers at risk when they are in the workplace and the business at risk of closing.
Furthermore, missing steps of the risk assessment means employer is not complying with the law.
Finally, it is important to carry out a risk assessment and all the steps because if an employer does
not, they will receive punishments. When you do not take out a risk assessment you are failing to
control the hazard which means all the activities in the workplace become harmful to people inside
the workplace. This means an employer will receive consequence such loss of money due to paying
the works sick pay as they may be ill or injured. Furthermore, the HSE can file a case on an employer
because they are not following the health and safety laws. The case can charge you fines if they find
out these hazards are the employer’s fault as they didn’t do a risk assessment.
In conclusion, the importance of risk assessment is that it allows the employer to find hazards and be
