Topic:- The stability of Equilibrium
floating bodies
, Introduction:- If body floating partially
immersed in a liquid be given a small
displacement from its position of equilibrium
and left to move under the action of the forces
acting on it. Three possibilities are there:-
1. Either the forces acting on it tend to bring
the body to its original position .
2. They tend to take the body further away
from its original position of equilibrium.
3. The body may remain at rest in the
displacement position .
In the first case equilibrium is said to be
stable, while in the second case equilibrium
is said to be unstable, I third case the
equilibrium is said to be neutral.
