1. Introduction to Anatomy
Definition: Anatomy is the branch of biology that deals with the structure of the body and its
parts.
It helps in understanding the form, location, and relationships of organs and tissues.
2. Levels of Organization
Chemical level – atoms & molecules.
Cellular level – basic structural and functional unit of life.
Tissue level – groups of similar cells performing a specific function.
Organ level – two or more tissues forming a structure with a specific function.
System level – group of organs that work together.
Organism level – complete living being.
3. Major Systems of the Human Body
1. Skeletal System – bones and joints.
2. Muscular System – muscles responsible for movement.
3. Nervous System – brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
4. Respiratory System – lungs and airways.
5. Cardiovascular System – heart and blood vessels.
6. Digestive System – stomach, intestines, etc.
7. Urinary System – kidneys and bladder.
8. Reproductive System – male and female reproductive organs.
9. Integumentary System – skin, hair, and nails.
10. Endocrine System – glands producing hormones.
