What is a registered kinesiologist?
● The scope of practice: The assessment of human movement and performance and its’
rehabilitation and management to maintain, rehabilitate or enhance movement and
performance

What kinesiologists do
● The Discipline: “Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement.”

health, and more.
○ It is prevention (disease)
○ It is management (disease)
○ It is performance (athletes)
● The Profession: Kinesiologists work with people of all ages and abilities in many settings
to help them achieve their health and wellness goals.

1. Foundational knowledge
● Demonstrates knowledge of biomechanics in the provision of treatment and
services with individuals, groups and populations, human anatomy, motor
learning, chronic disease, physiology
● Uses foundational knowledge of human movement, performance, and function to
enhance and promote human health and recovery from illness and injury.
2. Professional practice
● Applies and integrates knowledge, skills and judgment to provide competent
services through the continuum of care
3. Professionalism
● Assumes professional responsibility to provide safe, ethical and effective
kinesiology services.
4. Communication
● Uses effective communication and collaboration with others to achieve common
goals and enhance relationships in the provision of kinesiology services.
5. Professional development
● Engages in self-reflection, continuing education and development for ongoing
competence.

What can one expect when treated by an RKin?
● Take a complete health history and find out your goals or objectives
● Conduct an assessment
○ Assessments differ according to the reason why you are seeing a kinesiologist
○ Assessments include: strength, flexibility testing, cardiovascular testing, gait
assessment, cognitive psychometric evaluation or a physical demands analysis
● Discuss the findings of the assessment with you
● Propose a personalized treatment plan that will meet your goals or objectives
● Obtain consent for the treatment plan as well as for fees and method of billing
● Regularly measure your progress and make adjustments to the treatment as needed
● Provide advice and education regarding your health
● Keep a record of the care provided and ensure your personal health information is kept
secure and confidential
● Collaborate with other health professionals as appropriate
