HABERMAS
Jürgen Habermas' Theory of Communicative
Action helps us understand how people
communicate. He says communication is key to
social action.
According to Dianna Booher,
“Communication is essentially about making
things happen, getting action, changing
behavior and changing minds.”
Communicative action is cooperative
communication aimed at mutual
understanding. People work together to
understand each other. This type of
communication helps build trust and
cooperation.
, Habermas distinguishes four forms of action,
namely,
1. teleological action,
2. norm-regulated action,
3. dramaturgical action and
4. communicative action.
Habermas also differentiates the instrumental
action from the communicative and
emancipation ones.
